FAQs
Do I need a landscape designer or a landscape architect for my project?
Most smaller scale residential projects only need a landscape designer to help with a project. Architects generally work on larger scale, complex, often commercial projects. Designers focus on functionality and aesthetics.
What is your design approach?
I approach all my designs by first listening to the client’s need and wants, and then offering my ideas and suggestions. A collaborative approach is my favorite, with openness from both parties. I focus on functional, usable, and beautiful spaces to help families get outside as much as possible.
What is the process from consultation to project completion?
A good plan always starts with a consultation. Sometimes this is all a client needs to get started on their landscape plans. If a client decides they want to go ahead with a design or planting plan, a proposal will be drafted that includes cost. A 50% deposit is then collected and the design process starts. Please allow up to 3 weeks for a completed design. After the design is presented and revisions are made, it is the clients choice to either hand the design to a landscaper, or attempt to install on their own.
How much experience do you have?
I have been working in the landscaping industry for the past 5 years. I completed my certificate in Horticulture and Landscape Design from Kwantlen Polytechnic University in 2023, while sub-contracting design services to a handful of landscapers. I started Grace Gardens in the Spring of 2024 and have never looked back.
How long is a consultation?
Consultations usually last an hour. I find that anything over an hour feels like an overload of information. Depending on the size of property they can be a bit longer or shorter. I follow up each consultation with a summary of what was discussed. I suggest bringing a notepad, pencil, and all your questions!
Can you guarantee my plants will live?
Unfortunately, no. I can give you the best suggestions for whatever sun exposures and soil you have, but there are too many environmental factors for me to guarantee that. I highly suggest installing some sort of irrigation system if you want success with your plants.
